  1. I remember when “The Hour of Power” was on TV every Sunday morning. The music was always great, thanks to the magnificent organ, but Robert Schuller’s therapeutic, sappy prosperity gospel paved the way for heretics like Joel Osteen. Not surprisingly, Schuller’s empire collapsed (like Jim Bakker and many others before and after), built on the sand of a charismatic personality, and now his church is a Roman Catholic cathedral. I would like to see the building in person, but I don’t much care for the all-too-modernist looking “Catholic” additions, sleek and lacking mystery, even though admittedly the building itself is minimalist. They also covered the windows, so now you can no longer see outside, which was the whole point of being made of glass. I’m sure that’s great for the hot summer months in California, but it seems to be a drastic departure from the original architect’s vision. There was also a “river” or pool of water with plants (ferns I think) in the middle of the sanctuary, but that seems to have been removed as well.

    1. Monk Fan on one hand, I understand what you are saying. I would love to hear more of the music, which is when a lot of this narration takes place. However, I am totally blind. I was at the mass on Wednesday. There were a number of places where I wasn’t sure what was happening. I appreciate the opportunity to go back and listen to this broadcast with the narration, because it gives me a better understanding of those parts of the mass that I couldn’t see.
